About The Decibel Club

Hi, and welcome to The Club!

We are a small group of vintage audio enthusiasts who shares an interest in vintage audio gear - primarily from the HiFi era of the 1960s and 1970s.

We're not audiophiles, yet we do have a strong appreciation for music, quality sound, and the elegant gear that is integral to the experience.

While we have quality systems we really enjoy and appreciate making things possible, we realize there will always be many with loftier ambitions and budgets than ours. This site is not intended to be a place for one to compare and brag about one's components ("my amp's bigger than yours"), but rather share passion for art and impressions on works and components.  Anyone who is looking for more information on specific components and their history will want to also visit HiFiCollector.com (perhaps how you got here in the first place).  There will be separate sections for each member's system, their music, the components, and any interesting stories behind their acquisition or experiences with them.

Occasionally, we may feel like sharing some thoughts on topics such as analog vs. digital, ported vs. sealed speakers, tube vs. solid state, speaker layouts, and listening levels. For now, we encourage you to comment on posts, and we will use those comments to further discussions and fuel future posts.

Music, when you take the time to pay attention it, have a good, clean copy of good material, and a nice system to hear it on, is an experience, and in our opinion is healthy for the mind and soul. For some, this means intentionally putting the cell phone, iPad, and computers out of range, dimming the lights, and sitting in a comfy chair. Things really take off when one closes one's eyes for a while and lets the cares of the day slip away. Stereo spatialization spreads out and envelops you; the mind starts imagining things (a phantom stage center can appear, for instance), and musical layers one didn't know existed appear. Yes - all this can be achieved with no mind-altering drugs, at all.

This, and so much more awaits you as you enter, so thanks for stopping by, and please send comments and suggestions to thedecibelclub@gmail.com

Thanks!

The Club
